The ants are coming, what to do
April 19, 2014
With the onset of warmer temperatures, sunny skies and picnics; we see the annual return of our Colorado ants. One of the more common ant species that we all have to deal with are household odiferous ants. Unlike their close cousins the carpenter ant or termites, odiferous ants and not generally considered destructive. These household ants are more of a nuisance than a hazard. They are especially fond of foods containing sugar and other “sweet” substances. For the untreated home, these insects can quickly move in and set up regular feeding runs. The Integrated method starts with a full certified pest inspection. We will determine their food sources, travel paths and harborage. The worker ants go out and forage for food to bring it back to their nest. Understanding the behaviors and routines are the key to effective control. An exterior pesticide barrier is applied around the exterior of the structure to prevent new insects from entering.Monitoring stations are put in place to watch for continued activity. With some applications, exterior barrier treatment may not completely solve the issue. A supplemental bait component for interior applications may be necessary for complete ant control.Effective and safe pest control requires a documented and effective management plan. Pests will always find a new way into our spaces, regular maintenance is the key to keeping your space free from unwanted intrusions.
